Education in Belize
The Belize Government does not have
sufficient funds to fully support the education system, but pays the
teachers' salaries. The Claretians' charity, administered by the
Claretian Missionaries Trust based in Buckden Towers, set up a mission in Belize in 2003. Fr.
Chris and Fr. Dominic help the people with their everyday lives in the Dangriga
region of Belize. Through the 'Children in Belize' part of this charity
we are now playing an important role in the education of the children.
The Dangriga
parish covers an area of 60x40 miles. It is mostly rural and includes
major agricultural lands and the forested foothills of the Maya
Mountains. Within the Dangriga parish there are 15 primary schools with over
4000 students. The education system is open to all children. The
'Children in Belize' charity assists by providing buildings and their
renovation, sanitation services, electricity supplies, books and other
financial support.
The
'Children in Belize' Appeal
The 'Children in
Belize' appeal, administered by the Claretian Missionary Trust
of Buckden Towers, focuses specifically on the educational needs of the
children. The goal is to continue raising vital funding which will be
spent directly in the schools. The Claretian Missionaries Trust is a
Registered Charity No. 234026
Kimbolton Charity Ride - OUR GOAL
Our goal for the
Kimbolton Charity Ride is to raise money, through entry fees and
sponsorship collected by our riders, and to donate ALL proceeds
directly to the 'Children in Belize' appeal. We have set up a committee
of volunteers from the local community to organize a safe and enjoyable day out
for all the family.
